Artesia week 4

Beautiful rainbow cloud we saw on the way to Hobbs.
Here's Elder Ramirez and I in the alley which runs to our house, getting home late at night.
And here during the day is our house

Well, it's not really a house. It's cut in half, and we get half of it. We have a bedroom, a kitchen/study room/dining room combined and a tiny bathroom. It's the smallest apartment I've had so far, but the quality is nice so it's all good.

We had our last zone conference with President Augustin this week. Thus, another trip to Roswell and more alien pictures. We also went to Hobbs, which is pretty dang far away, later on in the week to do a baptismal interview for a man the zone leaders are teaching in Spanish. That was sweet. I love baptismal interviews.

Random cactus I found on the side of the street one day. I brought it home and now it furnishes our apartment.

Elder Ramirez found a Napoleon Dynamite shirt at Walmart and had to get it.

Found the church that broke off of ours down here. It has since been re-named the Community of Christ.

I do love the New Mexico flag. Elder Ramirez thought it was cool too. I bet that sticks out like a sore thumb. I hope everyone is using that as a missionary opportunity. And right now I am good on everything especially since it is the last week of the transfer. But I will let you know. Thanks for the maps by the way!

Now to answer some of Dad's questions:

1) Right now we have a total of 0 Spanish investigators and 0 Spanish members that come to church. I don't even know who the Spanish less actives are. Nobody really seems to know that we've asked so far. In Hereford we were teaching Silvia is Spanish and there were a few less actives we visited in Spanish, but definitely less that Abilene and Pampa.
2) We do at least a couple hours of walking around on foot every day trying to find people to talk to. We've knocked doors a little bit, but I don't like it. Members are supposed to be the finders. Missionaries are actually just called as the teachers. But, y'know. Members don't do much finding, so it ends up being our job every day for hours...

3) Ryan is on probation. Aaaaand he didn't check in with his probation officer this week, so he has been arrested and is now in jail. It's sad because we had taught him the word of wisdom and when we told him to quit everything he literally jumped up, grabbed his cigarettes and chew, ran out into the street and threw it away. Alas, he is now is jail. We cannot visit jails.

4) In the district there are 3 other companionships. All 3 of them are stationed in Carlsbad. One pair is sisters, and one pair is Spanish Elders. Only one elder in the district has been out on his mission longer than me. And he is the only one that seems to challenge me from time to time. But really, there aren't any big problems to deal with. And the new mission president is President Heap. I don't really know anything about him except he's from Montana I believe?

Mark didn't get back from his trip until 7 last night. Therefore, no church and no lessons this week. We'll be seeing him tonight. Pray that all will go well.

We had to drop Daniel this week. He doesn't seem to want to meet with us anymore. We went by a couple days ago when they were home, but no one answered the door.

We are now teaching a young couple named Alberto and Brenda. They are former investigators who have had a baptismal date multiple times. They remind me a lot of Javier and Flo. They are really cool and seem close to baptism. They have 3 little kids all under 4 years old.

We have also been going through the less active ward list and have found a couple part member families that we are going to be teaching the coming week. Part member families are the best way to get baptisms. I am convinced of that 100%. One family is Harry (who is 79 and not a member) and his wife Maria who is a member. Harry has actually been going to the reformed LDS church. Pretty crazy huh? Almost everyone in that family is not a member except for Maria. We'll see what happens there.

That's about it for me this week. Be sure to send lots of grad pics next week! That's super exciting! I love you mom! I love you dad! I love you Meagan! I love you Courtney!
