Artesia week 6

Drenched in another rainstorm!
This is Monday night Elder Ramirez and I getting drenched in a rain storm. It may not look like it, but we got soaked.
Sonic slushies!

Here are Elder Ramirez and I dying on Wednesday in the heat. We decided to go to Sonic real quick and but some slushies. Poor decision. After half an hour more of walking all the sugar in those things dehydrated us and made us want to puke, so we had to throw them away. Slushies only help if you're in the AC.

Here we are Thursday evening visiting our one Spanish member, Humberto. He made us some dinner that was so super duper spicy. Elder Ramirez (surprising because he's Mexican) is a wimp for spices and was sweating the whole time.

Starting from the left we have Elders Ramirez, Smith, Young and Van Voris. Elders Young and Van Voris are the ones now in Dexter who have our car. Elder Smith is one of our zone leaders. I actually went knocking doors with him my first night in Lubbock. What's up with that?

And here he is backing us out for one last time...
Here is my last picture with Elder Ramirez. Saturday resting for a sec in the shade. He was a great missionary and I really loved having him for a companion.
My new companion, Elder Nowland.

Elder Nowland (pronounced kind of like no-lind). He actually arrived from the MTC in Texas on Saturday, so it was perfect timing for the exchange. Elder Nowland is from West Point Utah. He is 19 years old, and now my white companions once again out number my brown ones. Elder Nowland is an English speaking missionary. That means that I am currently in my first "zebra" companionship. It'll be different for sure. Here's our picture we got this morning back in our apartment. I look quite a bit taller only because I am wearing shoes and he isn't. lol

As you can imagine, this week has been a super tough one. But, I made it through. It's so crazy, but just as I am facing this difficult week Satan decides to throw all these random temptations at me. It's like, seriously? That's usually how it works though. He hits you when you're slightly off guard.

Anyway, we still managed to have a pretty successful week. We arrived Saturday night at 8:00 with Elder Nowland straight out of the MTC and we jetted off to a lesson with a member who was waiting for us outside of our apartment. What a great way to start for him right? We taught this lady, Sonya. She is cool. She read the whole Book of Mormon 8 years ago and doesn't see why it couldn't be true. Lately she has been studying lots with the Jehovah's Witnesses, so that will be our battle to face. Also, she is a little older and had arthritis, which makes it really hard for her to get up in the mornings... especially for 9:30 church. We didn't see Tony this week. Alberto and Brenda seem to be making minimal progress.

Last night we were able to have a miraculous lesson though. We were with our member and he was driving us around to different investigator/potential houses. He had been with us for an hour and we had had no success. I couldn't think of any more people so I was about to say he could just let us go and we could walk around trying to talk to people for the rest of the night. Then, the thought came to my mind to visit this one guy who was drunk the last time we tried by. I thought whatever, why not? As we were driving to his place we went by this lady's house we had knocked the week before. She was outside watering her yard, and the spirit screamed at me to stop. So I told him to stop. We did. Then we proceeded to go talk to her and have an hour lesson about the restoration. It was miraculous. Elder Nowland even had his first chance to extend a baptismal invitation. Unfortunately, Gloria (that's her name), said no. But she had to think about it before she said that. She did agree to reading and praying about the Book of Mormon and we got a return appointment, so we'll see what happens. Well fam, I hope you're having a good vacation! I love you mom! I love you dad! I love you Meagan! I love you Courtney!
