Elder Moffitt, Nita, Alizay and Alexandria |
Last district photo before transfers. |
Now for a little news from me about the last week of
the transfer. As always, at the last district meeting of every transfer we have
district pictures. So, here you go. Once a month we also get to have district
lunch. We went to a Chinese buffet. Always good. So, big news for transfers
this week. Elder King is heading out to a little town called Comanche and he
will finish training 2 Elders who have been half trained so far (I always
wonder what it would be like to be in a trio). I am staying in Abilene and my
new companion will be Elder Banks. He came out with Elder King and Elder King says
he is a very nice, humble, cool guy. So I'm excited to see what a new companion
will be like.
Life in the day of a missionary! |
And here is one of my pairs of shoes. Before and
after polishing. It's crazy how much of a difference a good polish can make.
It's like a whole new pair of shoes!
New companion.....new planner! |
As a new transfer comes I of course have to make a
new planner. Here is me cutting out the lamination paper to cover my planner
with. And here is my new planner. Pioneers. I thought pioneers was an
appropriate choice for a couple reasons. Pioneer, pilgrims.... Thanksgiving is
this transfer. And also, this transfer is my 6 month mark. It has been a long
"trek" to make it this far. Haha. Get it? I know I am so funny.
Anyway, there you go.
Cow tongue.....yep! |
Over at Kayla's families house this
week they had a big party. Kayla's cousin, Brooklyn, turned 4. There was lots
of good food. This first picture is a nice big cow tongue. We had cow tongue
and cow cheek tacos. It was actually pretty good, but the thought of what I was
eating made it gross a couple times. Then of course they made Brooklyn take a
bite of the cake and pushed her face into it. She loved it. Ah, Mexicans.
This week Martha cooked us some
Menudo. It's a soup type thing where the
meat in it is pig skin and fat. It's all squishy, but the Mexicans
love it. There are also chunks of bone in the soup. Yeah, a few weeks ago we
had soup with whole chicken legs and corn on the cob in the soup. It's a whole
different food culture for sure.
At church, Brother Bundy bought some
Ghost peppers for all the missionaries to try. Apparently, they are some of the
spiciest peppers in the world. So, what did we do? We all had to have one of
course. It burned so bad. Elder King and Elder Varvel were crying, Elder
Chapman turned super red, and Elder Martin went all numb. I almost died too.
The burning didn't go away for like 10 minutes. They are so hot you can't grab
them with your hands... yet you're supposed to eat them.
This is Juanita, the mom of Nita
(whose name is also Juanita but she goes by Nita). Yesterday she was called as
the second counselor in the relief society presidency. Yay for less actives who
are now getting callings! Speaking of that, yesterday our good friend Leonardo
was set apart as the Elder's quorum president! Whoo! He is our only native
speaking Melchizedek priesthood holder in the branch, and he is like the
legitest guy ever by the way.
Here I am with David, our ward
mission leader. He came with us last night when we saw Alexandria and Alizay,
but he was actually out talking to Nita and Eliseo the whole time. He has been
gone for a couple weeks. But now he is back and ready to go!
Got together for Sunday morning brunch. My contribution was cinnamon, sugar pancakes. Not gonna lie...they were pretty darn good!Oh yes I did indeed get my box. Thank you mommy!!! It was great. Now I need to buy a pumpkin to carve. Haha. Loved it. Loved it. Wow, your missionary experience sounds like it was super awesome! I love you guys so much! I have the best family in the whole world. Seriously! The picture of you and dad just made me smile seeing you!
Sofia did not get baptized this
week. She had to cancel a lesson with us and so she just didn't know all the
things she needs to before getting baptized. This week we'll reset a date, and
hopefully Damian will be there too.
Church yesterday was fantastic. We
had 2 new families come. Javier and Flo and their 3 little kids. They were
taught a couple years ago in Clovis. They moved here a couple months ago and
spotted the missionaries. We met with them once this week, and then they were
at church. The whole time they were being taught last time they only made it to
church once, but now those complications that prevented them from coming seem
to be gone.
Mariana and Noel and their 3 little
kids also came. We met her Saturday and invited her to come. She brought her
whole family. We'll see what happens, but I'm really excited.
