Anyway, this is a picture of the first dead missionary I know.... strange thing to say. It's what you call a missionary going home. His name is Elder Harris. Pretty funny huh? We went over to his apartment on his last night to say goodbye. There's just a little taste of his personality. He's a goober. When we were over there something so crazy happened. So, Elder Harris's brother had called in and ordered pizza for him on his last night there. So a pizza guy shows up and has some food. He tells Elder Harris it'll be like 14 bucks. Elder Harris pays (and we're all thinking, well that's a little weird that his brother didn't pay. I guess he only ordered it...), then the pizza guy asks if we're missionaries. We say yes. He asks if we ever talk to people. We say of course. Then he asks if we can talk to him sometime, and he knows some of his friends would be interested too. So of course we take down all his information then he leaves. 5 minutes later we get a knock at the door. It's a different pizza guy (girl actually). She says she's got some pre--paid pizza for us. We said someone just came. She's like oh dang it. He was supposed to go to the apartment a couple doors down. Yet, he accidentaly came to ours. Coincidence? I think not! Anyway, there's my inspiration story for the week.
7-11....oh yeah! |
Here is us after a trip to get gas...
and some food in 7-11 while we were at it. This is only our second time ever
going to 7-11 though. That picture of us with the slurpees was the only other
time. I had to get a Mucho Mancho Arizona. Classic. And the donut was only 25
cents, so I figured what the heck.
The first
time I tried to take this picture I forgot to put the camera on a 2 second
delay, so this is what we ended up with. I thought it was kind of funny, so I
figured I would send it to ya.
It was a very exciting week. It may be hard to tell just from what I've said
and the pictures I sent. But lots happened, and I think that this upcoming week
with be a very good one. I think I'm finally starting to get out of the Greenie
mail stage. The letters have slowed down. But, that's ok. Now Elder King
doesn't feel bad about me getting more mail than him. haha.
Anyway, here's the update on our investigators from this week:
Anyway, here's the update on our investigators from this week:
Eliseo: He was at church! We met
with him once this week (and Nita was there too). They both expressed concerns
about not being able to understand the Book of Mormon, so we just read with
them and helped them to understand (All in Spanish woot!). And Nita cooked some
beans, sausage, and tortillas for us as well. Delicious. Nita really has turned
around from a few months ago when she said our church was crazy (even though
she's a member). Now she says she wants to change her life. And hopefully we
can help her do that.
Katarino: We set a baptismal date
with Katarino this week for the 5th of October! Then afterwards we realized we
would probably have to change it because that's general conference, and our
branch president and ward mission leader will be out of town that week... He
was at church too, and the pool party the Spanish branch had this weekend (I
think Sister Bundy, our relief society president may be sending you a few
pictures of the party too). He is doing great. Keep praying for him.
Cesar: I love this guy! We had 2
fantastic lessons with them. We had one lesson all about FHE and how the
gospel blesses families. Cesar and Kathy loved it! and tonight we're having
them over to a member's house for FHE. I'm excited. They weren't at church
though this week...
Nicolas: No real progress I could
see this week. He was at church, only sacrament meeting.
Alexandria and Alizay (Mamas and
Zayzay): We didn't meet with them again this week. Ugh. I called them up Sunday
morning though and they both came to church. They still seem ready and willing
to learn, but it's just hard to meet with them now.
Saaaadddd news of the week... |
Now for the first time since being out
here I don't have a phone anymore :( We had the luxury of 2 phones before
because one was Spanish and one was English. Now that we are solely the Spanish
branch we are down to one phone. How sad. I told them we had to have a ceremony
for it. I couldn't just "hand it over." No, that would be too boring.
